Auf jeden Fall lohnt es sich, die Bücher auf Englisch zu lesen, denn mal ehrlich - schwerer als bei Harry Potter ist das Englisch hier nicht und es ist immer Geschmacksache (mein Geschmack ist es nicht), wenn Namen und Orte bei der deutschen Übersetzung gleich mit "eingedeutscht" werden (was aber nur bei Kinderbüchern und Fantasy gemacht wird und viel darüber aussagt, welchen Stellenwert man allgemein diesen Genres zuweist und wie viel Hirnschmalz man den Lesern zutraut...)Bei dieser Ebook-Ausgabe erhält man als Bündel die ersten vier Bände. Kauft man dann noch den fünften separat dazu, hat man immer noch die aktuell günstigste Variante.Das Ebook ist gut gestaltet, man hat ein Inhaltsverzeichnis, das erlaubt, auf jedes Buch und die darin enthaltenen Kapitel einzeln zuzugreifen und die Kapitel direkt anzuwählen. Dabei werden auch die Kapitelnamen im Inhaltsverzeichnis genannt, was die Einordnung leichter macht.
George R.R. Martin ist ein Künstler.Diese Geschichte, die tiefgründigen vielschichtigen Charaktere prägen die Geschichte auf eine unglaubliche Art und Weise. Ich bewundere die gigantische Fanatsie dieses Mannes. Ich liebe vor allem den allgegenwärtigen Bezug zur Natur und die Idee, dass eine Jahreszeit Jahre dauert. Der Epos ist kollossal und auch das ganze Drumherum ist einfach stimmig. Dies sind die ersten Bücher, die ich gelesen habe, wo ich sage, es grenzt an perfekt.Ich liebe die Art wie lebendig und platisch George Martin schreiben kann. Und wie er sich in jede Figut hineinversetzt und die Geschichte aus ihren Augen schildert. Ich habe jede Seite verschlungen und lese sie bald nochmal!
Zum Inhalt des Werks von G.R.R. Martin muss wohl nicht mehr so viel gesagt werden, daher hier Argumente für DIESE VERSION von A Song Of Ice and Fire:+ Die Bücher sind im Deutschen einfach viel zu überteuert, daher besser die englische Version bestellen. Im Deutschen sind die Originalbände nicht nur jeweils zweigeteilt (z.B. "A Game of Thrones" in "Die Herren von Winterfell" und "Das Erbe von Winterfell"), sondern auch noch völlig überteuert.+ Hier hat man die ersten vier der (aktuell 7) Bücher im praktischen Schuber mit einheitlichem Rückendesign - sieht schick aus im Bücherregal.+ Der Schuber ist praktisch und hält alle beisammen.- ABER: Sobald man eines der Bücher (länger) gelesen hat und somit der Rücken "gedehnt" ist, passen die vier Bände nicht mehr in den Schuber rein :DDas Papier der Bücher ist so dünn wie das der Bibel, entsprechend "gepresst" sind sie auch am Anfang und das Buch geht einfach in die Breite, wenn man es gelesen hat.= Weil die Bücher gelesen nicht mehr in den Schuber passen, gibt es einen Stern Abzug, ansonsten ist er super günstig, sehr schön und wirklich praktisch.
Üblicherweise stehe ich nicht auf Fantasy ' ich bin eher jemand der sich in der Welt der Technik zuhause fühlt, und sich somit zu den SciFi-Jüngern zählt. Aber die Welt die der Autor geschaffen hat, ist alles andere als die naive, auf männliche Teenager zugeschnittene, und teils lächerliche Kost, die man sonst mit Fantasy verbindet. Die Geschichte, die George R.R. Martin in diesem Set erzählt ist rau, bedrohlich, voller Gewalt und politischer Intrigen. Sie hat einen bittersüßen Geschmack, von dem man nicht mehr loskommt, nachdem man das erste Mal gekostet hat.Der Autor scheut nicht mal davon Hauptcharakteren den Garaus zu machen, wenn das der Geschichte dienlich ist. Auf diese Weise wird enorme Spannung aufgebaut, und man fiebert jedes Mal mit, wenn es so aussieht als würde es der nächsten Figur, die man in sein Herz geschlossen hat, an den Kragen gehen. Die Dialoge strotzen nur so von Witz und Wortspiel, und erwecken das Gefühl als würde man realen Personen dabei zuhören, wie sie sich unterhalten (aus diesem Grund würde ich jedem empfehlen, der des Englischen mächtig ist, sich dieses Set zu kaufen, und die auf Deutsch übersetzten Bücher links liegen zu lassen). Dem Autor ist es sogar gelungen einige der 'Bösewichte' sehr sympathisch und liebenswert erscheinen zu lassen'überhaupt ist in keinem Zeitpunkt gewiss, wer der Gute und wer der Böse ist. Diese Geschichte kennt kein Schwarz oder Weiss, nur die vielen Abstufungen von Grau. Sie handelt von Einzelschicksalen, zugleich ist sie jedoch episch, und geht auf die globalen Entwicklungen in dieser real anmutenden Welt, die kein Happy End kennt.'A song of ice and fire' ist ein Meisterwerg welches ich auch Lesern, die dem Fantasy-Genre nichts abgewinnen können, wärmstens empfehlen kann!
The author's style lies somewhere between Terry Brooks and Tad Williams. He avoids Brooks' endlessly repetitive descriptions ("...the small party... the small party... the small party...") but doesn't reach the sheer poetic level of Williams' continual stream of new metaphors. All in all very readable, despite his constant use of passive past tense where active would be nicer to read (he uses, almost exclusively, the "-ing" form of past-tense verbs, which my teachers taught us to avoid, e.g. "was looking" instead of "looked" or "was walking" instead of "walked"). Additionally, he often writes "you" when "one" would (IMO) be more readable/appropriate. Granted, these are purely stylistic issues, and do not detract from the otherwise well-written story.This particular Kindle bundle is a tiny bit annoying in that the page count only applies to the first of the four books, so after the end of the first book the Kindle says "page 695 of 695" for the remainder of the 4 books, making navigation a pain in the bottom when one wants to traverse to and from the appendices to look at the family tree descriptions or the maps of the realm. For that alone i would prefer to have purchased these as 4 individual books, but... it was significantly cheaper to buy them as a set, so i won't complain too much about that ;).
